Leading Pharma Company Chooses Component Web Services’ Electronic Informed Consent Form Software

Online solutions provider Component Web Services has been selected by a leading global pharmaceutical company to streamline the delivery of its consent form for clinical trial participants worldwide.

Fairfield, NJ, January 15, 2015 — Component Web Services’ (CWS) new Consent Now software application has been selected by one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers to manage its consent process for an upcoming macular degeneration study.

The company’s global study team will work with CWS to develop the overall creative media, based on the approved Informed Consent Form (ICF) protocol. Consent Now software takes a potential clinical trial participant through a series of informative pre-screeners, videos and assessments before providing the patient with the Electronic Informed Consent Form (e-ICF). A series of multiple-choice questions is presented to gauge the patient’s comprehension level of the video content and overall study benefits along with the risks. Responses are captured by CWS’ Consent Now application for reporting and analysis by sponsors, study centers and IRBs.

CWS President & CEO Kevin B. Kimmel unveiled the second-generation Consent Now software application to multiple study teams in late 2014. Slated for first patient use in July 2015, the new e-ICF will be implemented in an upcoming macular degeneration clinical trial in over 40 study centers.

According to Kimmel, the software has matured into a “world-class” application. He credits his team for listening to the clients’ needs. “Though CWS has always focused on creating a user-centric experience, we are especially sensitive to the fact that our software is now part of a process to help fight serious illness,” says Kimmel. “The delivery of the e-ICF was first and foremost on our minds, as we needed to know that our solution would be extremely easy and intuitive to use, knowing that a patient may not currently be in good health.”

CWS expanded the scope of the original software, developing a workflow within Consent Now that now allows the client’s global study teams to track participants from first log-in to the signing of the e-ICF. He explains, “Our goal was to create a new delivery concept — one that provided the best possible user experience by simplifying the process for patients, study teams and the client sponsor.” The Consent Now software will also be available on the Apple iPad® to complement CWS’s web and AndroidTM based delivery platforms.

CWS was extremely excited to present its work to the study teams. According to Kimmel, “It’s not often that you get the chance to be part of something that can change people’s lives. Having a positive impact on patient outcomes was driving force that inspired the CWS team to give 110% on this project.”
